Excellent quality steel rule, good for woodworking, made in Japan
I purchased this to use as a straight edge to inspect the soles of cast-iron hand planes. I also use it to check the flatness of lumber post machining. For a woodworker (with the assumption that a woodworker will also need to maintain accuracy of his/her tools), this satisfies all accuracy requirements for less money than the industrial carbon steel straight edges. It is also quite nice not having to worry about oiling it after every use. I have been using this for almost a year, and there is not noticeable wear as of yet, and it should remain in spec for at least 20 years at my current rate of use.TLDR:+ Easy to read+Tolerances for rule fine for wood-working tolerances when used as straight-edge+ Stainless, so no constant oiling required+ Durable enough+ Satisfies my Japanese level expectations for a product.Update: still in spec after 2 years of use

Works GREAT!!
these are great for my shop. Rigid enough to not bend while I am measuring and the finish is a matte so light doesn't reflect off the ruler making it hard to read. Next to Starrett (which I just can't afford) these are GREAT! I own 3 different sizes and the 2 thicknesses. This is the thicker and works really well in my wood shop. Using it I can feel the quality and the crisp lines are perfect to help me get right where I need to be with tool setup or cabinet construction.

Great ruler but incorrect image shown
I own quite a few Mitutoyo rules and all of them are excellent including this one. The only problem is the image used is not correct.

No defect in different sided etchings, all top brands do so. Brown and sharp, starrett, this, etc.
Gav... this is how machinist tools are, its for precision work like lathes, cnc, fabrication etc. Their is no deffect, just a flip or the wrist or even a tada with little throw in the air and catch is all hommie. This brand and sterrett are the highest ends of precision you can get your hands on even though this is a japanese brand, theyre super super up their in technology advancment with precision work compaired to sterrett i find. Starrett tends to fall back and stay in its older/ classic ways. As the japanese may*** however you spell it, gets into digital micromenters along time ago, while building new ideas for working in these typa fields more easy on life in some mannars, just as saving you the eye stain and extra 30 seconds each time you have to read a manual micrometers.

Not sure if I got a defect, but the ...
Not sure if I got a defect, but the numbering was on the wrong 'side' (and not the same as pictured in this listing). See attached pics - I expected the lowest number to start on the top left side of the ruler - this one was reversed (highest end of the scale was on the top left, lowest number bottom left). Bottom of ruler was ok (but in mm)
