Q: What makes this superior to the ESP tool they copied?

It's the exact same $3 tool! They packaged it in a very nice 4 color print cardboard box, and included a sheet of really thin, cheap pre-cut foam you'll need to attach to the side of the tool where it lays against your guitar. Note: the cheap foam pad is badly cut, and doesn't quite cover the entire surface. I was only going to use one end, so I cut the foam piece in half, and applied the first piece, then cut pieces of the second section to patch the spots that didn't fit correctly. Note: You'll need to be extra careful, in my situation the foam wasn't thick enough to protect my beautiful nitro Les Paul against the tool. Lightly pressing on the tool (with the cheapo foam properly attached) was enough pressure to damage the finish on my guitar surrounding my volume knobs. Q: Does it work on strats Side jack?

It will work with a Strat that has a “Side Jack” on the edge of the body. If it has a “Recessed Jack” on the face of the guitar (Fender Style), you’ll probably want to use a socket wrench.

Q: Don't the teeth add dings or scratches on nuts? Seems like an odd design.

One side of the jaws is smooth. The other has rounded serrations that grip the top of the nut. The combination does not scratch the nut.
