PENGUIN The Mortal Instruments 6: City of Heavenly Fire

This was definitely my favourite book in The Mortal Instruments series. It brought with it a much more complex plot line and some promising and intricate character developments. I loved the addition of new characters and perspectives, it added a lot to the overall story and I can’t wait to see more from those particular characters in future shadowhunter books. The plot was surprising in some aspects and predictable in others, but I liked the choices Clare made and where this particular story arc ended. I am so excited to dive into The Dark Artifices next!

Having bought books 1-5 as a shrinkwrapped sent, I was somewhat nonplussed to reach the end of vol 5 only to discover that the story continued in vol 6. Oh well. Hooray for Amazon, I guess, since we no longer have a book shop in my town.Thing number one: the annoying Jace (gratuitously unpleasantly sarcastic in the early books, improbably drippy and tragic later on with a worrying tendency to find himself used as a tool for the villain/s) is no longer conflicted and has become touchy-feely instead. It's an improvement but not a big one.Thing number two: the Final Conflict does go on rather too long (ie. pretty much the whole book) but has some decent complications wound into it, and these are mostly resolved satisfactorily in the lengthy epilogue.I continue to be mildly irritated at the rather purple descriptions of the mostly chaste passion between Clary and Jace, but at least there isn't as much description as usual about clothing.I wasn't disappointed at the way the saga concluded.

Like everyone else I finished the last book a year ago,couldn't wait to read this .fantastic read couldn't put it down,literally I read it in one day,did feel like the book waffled on a bit at the end but I'm confused I know one couple got married but who was the other according to snippets there was 2 weddings,but I'm gutted I finished it but I an now going to re read again and enjoy it more this time p.s you will cry xxxxx
