JUST BUY IT, SO GOOD
I've never had a modern machine. I've always had Singers over the years that were decades old from church auctions and I've spent the last 15 years sewing with my grandma's 1960s model. I always knew there was something better out there and I've been waiting my whole life for this splurge. If you've sewn before, don't be intimidated by this machine, it's intuitive.I was initially hesitant as there's so much online hate for Singer in recent years since they were acquired by a larger company...but I wanted something familiar so I went ahead and got the upgraded model with all the fancy stitches since I was treating myself. My first impression was how light it was. It's not completely metal, but I DO NOT CARE. I'm so sick of lugging around a lethally heavy chunk of metal. Initial setup took MAYBE 5 minutes as I'm familiar with multiple Singer machines. My favorite part is the automatic threading arm and self cutting bobbin feature. SO IMPRESSED. It has a neat little pull out on the bottom that tells you which presser foot to use with what stitch you'll be using. What was initially buyer's remorse was instantly changed into self loathing. WHY didn't I buy a new machine years ago? This thing is a breeze. My first little project required overcast stitches, zigzag stitches, and a button hole. It took me all of 20 minutes. This would have taken HOURS with my grandmas machine because the bobbin always gets messed up. I've got a quilt in the queue to sew next and I'm optimistic that it won't take too long once it's cut and pinned. Oh how I've missed the days when prep was the longest part of a sewing project!

Not good for unusual fabrics.Only firmly woven lightweight
This sewing machine works well if you're using firmly woven cotton. But it does not handle light very lightweight or stretchy material well. I think this is because the face plate has a very large needle opening to accommodate wide zigzag stitches. Also I find t1l hat it doesn't like it when you need to start a seam very Close to the edge of the material. It grabs it and pulls it under and stalls the machine. Singer suggests using a stabilizing material under your sewing to correct this problem. But I hardly ever have a time when I would be using stabilizer. An optional faceplate with a smaller opening could solve that problem. The machine does make very nice button.Holes in many different styles. However you have to be very careful to remember to do all the steps before you hit go or it's going to make the wrong size button hole or make it in the wrong place..The machine can sew ar high speeds but can also beset to limit the speed for complicated operations. However it does not compare to the speed of an industrial machine. There are a variety of stretch stitch options which I like, but again, it has to be the right material and you must stay away from the edges when you start a seam.If there were second faceplate with smaller opening to use when you don't need 7mm (very wide) Zigzagging that might solve the problem. This is definitely NOT a machine for a beginner, but for an expert with special sewing needs, it might be a good addition to a straight sewing Industrial machine.I still have time to return it and I may well do this.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!
So this machine broke on first use, right in the middle of a project. When I inquired about getting it fixed, I was told there were NO authorized service centers in the entire SE. Closest was Kansas and Michigan. I would have to pay to box it up and send it off. Luckily, Amazon authorized my return. Found out that the Singer machines are no longer made to last; my last Singer lasted 45 years! They are all plastic. Keep looking!
