Q: How heavy is the bottom stand piece? Worried is a toddler were to pick it up and throw it would it hurt somebody?

It's not heavy at all. Not more than one pound or so. It's all hollow plastic, so I doubt a toddler will significantly hurt anyone with it. However, it does have a stacking stick in the middle, and if the child is inclined enough, they could grab it by the stick and hit someone with the base, I could imagine. I guess a child can do that with almost anything. So you have to gauge your child's behavior in considering this toy for them. But this toy looks nice and makes a great decorative piece.
