My 35 year old Craftsman 44 inch mower deck needed two new idler pulleys. As a retired engineering professor, I am always amazed at how some products are designed. The two pulleys were about 1/8 inch difference in overall diameter and about 3/16 inch different depth, so they had different part numbers. Their individual costs were quite high, on the order of $35 to $40 each, since they likely sell relatively few of them and thus have a high stocking fee. After seeing this pair of pulleys that were about the same as the OEM versions, I checked to make sure there would be proper clearance and tension on the belt. I added a couple of washers to one to increase its clearance, but otherwise using the two identical stock pulleys work fine at about 25% of the cost of replacing the OEM parts. Just another example of how design engineers 40 years ago gave no attention to minimizing different parts and giving no thought to future repair costs. Reminds me of a 1982 US built pickup truck I once had that required four different tools to replace the headlight.

Perfect fit for the classic, er, old Craftsman riding mower. Quick install without removing the deck. Don’t forget to order a replacement belt while you are this far in.

These are a direct fit for the OE parts. They fit well, and appear to be of similar quality as the OE part. Hopefully they will last as long or longer.

These pulleys are a perfect replacement for Craftsman P/N 131494. They run smooth and true.
